Today Richard Neutra would have been 125.  He was born in Vienna Austria. He studied under Adolf Loos at the Vienna University of Technology.  After serving in World War I and working for a short while in Germany he moved to the US in 1923.  Briefly working for Frank Lloyd Wright, he accepted a position with Rudolf Schindler a close friend from school.  Schindler is the one who brought him to California where he created many beautiful homes.

I think very significant that his homes all over Southern California are still admired and utilized for the original purpose.  Quite rare in our American throw away society. His case study modern homes look like they could be published in Dwell magazine today.  While some homes were threatened an admirer would save it from the wrecking ball.  Proof positive that good design is truly timeless.
