Martin A. Cizler, AIA, LEED AP, Studio Manager

Martin received his Bachelor of Architecture from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He received the AIA Henry Adams Certificate for Academic Excellence in the Study of Architecture and The Paul A. Goettleman Award for Academic Achievement from the School of Architecture. He also received an academic scholarship that enabled him to participate in the Patrick Cardinal O’Boyle Foreign Studies Program during his summer graduate semester studying Art and Architecture throughout Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain. During his studies back in the States he had the opportunity to intern at the American Institute of Architects Library as an Architectural History Research Assistant under the Library’s head Archivist. In addition to this he worked as a Teaching Assistant for the undergraduate Environmental Systems classes in conjunction with completing his graduate coursework.

Martin has over eighteen years experience in design and construction with the majority of his experience in custom home design and large-scale renovations and additions. His great interest in the residential form stems from his graduate thesis, “Home of the Gentry – The South River Country Club,” which involved the theory and design of a modern day golf and country club. This project was to be located on the scenic South River in Annapolis, Maryland with the clubhouse design based upon the historic “English Manor House” proto-type. This love of residential architecture was further ingrained in him after interning for a few years at a custom home building firm in Potomac, Maryland. He gained subsequent in depth design experience while working for nearly a decade at a small residential design firm in Bethesda, Maryland and later while working as a Designer/Project Manager for residential Design/Build firms located in Maryland and Virginia.

In 2004 Martin decided to re-locate, along with his wife and two sons, to Charleston to get away from the hectic pace of life in the Washington Metropolitan area to begin a more relaxed way of life in the low country. After working for a firm in Mt Pleasant, where he was Project Manager on a number of multi-family residential projects located within the greater Charleston area, Martin joined Christopher Rose Architects as a Project Architect in August 2005.

In addition to his extensive residential experience and passion for the built home form, Martin has a great sense of the importance that interior design details and exterior landscape features play towards creating a unique and truly personalized “home” environment. Currently he is a licensed Architect in the states of South Carolina and Maryland, and a member in good standing with the American Institute of Architects. He is also a lifetime member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.
