173 Flyway Drive

Location :: Kiawah Island, South Carolina

The concept of this home is to blur the line between indoor and outdoor space. The gambrel front porch greets guests and provides a vantage spot to supervise the children enjoying the front play lawn. The rear of the home transitions from heated to covered porch to open deck and the natural berms of the lawn around the pool visually flow onto the edge of the golf course. A screened porch and a loggia to the guest house provide privacy from the neighbors. The use of traditional materials in cedar shake siding and roofing allow for the home to age over time, and is in keeping with its setting near the ocean.

The second and third floor living areas are situated within the main roof structure through the use of dormers, reducing the height of the building. A grand entry greets guests, welcoming them and creating a dramatic transition into the intimacy of the home.
