Born in Finland, he grew up in Michigan Michigan where his father was dean at Cranbrook Academy of Art.  His sculptural forms recalled the work of Le Corbusier and took it to new levels.  His work certainly still inspires current deconstructionist architects such as Frank Gehry.  From his TWA terminal to the sweeping roof of Dulles airport are still iconic representations of flight.  His St Louis Arch is also among his works. His furniture designs are so popular to this day.
