He was born Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni in 1475.  A painter, sculptor and architect was the true personification of the Renaissance man.  He worked on a number of architectural projects.  His design for the Capitoline Hill with with trapezoidal piazza featuring the bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius is one of his most well known.  He designed the upper floor of the Palazzo Farnese, interior of the church of Santa Maria deli Angeli, San Giovanni dei Florentine, the Sforza Chapel and the Porta Pia.
